So I finally fixed my dern laptop yesterday with the assisstence of my little sister. Thanks sis! :hug:And because of this, I got a crazy idea that I'm a dude for real. The Little Company of Mary might have gotten it right and I just didn't know it...

Here's what happened. I'm working on my laptop and the dern thing starts doining it again! What, you ask. The screeen starts flickering! Why, you ask. The problem which I knew the whole time, was that the power jack was loose and not making proper contact, thus causing the computer to switch from AC power mode to battery. This always started to happen wehn it's been on for a while and is heated up, as we all know, heat causes things to expand.

Anywho, I got fed up with it finally, I had been planning on fixing it for some time already, and got to work. I told myself that I wouldn't be like my father and loose stuff. I took out all the exterior screws, placed them in a pile and started to crack the thing open. I opened all the covers for the fan, wireless reciever, the hard drive, etc. and placed them all in seperate piles with their assigned screws. Then at some poin, little sis came in and lent the assist I was looking for. (Thanks again :)) Then we have to remove the screen and housing in order to expose the motherboard and be able to work on the power jack, and that I tell you was a job and a half.

We finally see the problem and get to soldering it back in place. The dern thing wasn't even attached at the third prong on the back of it. (That may be way too much for all you who know nothing of what I'm speaking about but I'm only trying to give you a better picture) And on the bottom of the board where the prong pokes through there was nothing! So we put a little bead on that side as well. The problem with the soldering portion of that endeavor was that for some reason, the board was like there was a coating of oil on it and the solder woulnd't stick. We had tokeep getting it hot and kinda smear it around without melting the board or shorting something. Then wehn we finally got the soldering done, we hot glued it in place so it wouldn't happen again. Thank Gd for hot glue, it isn't a conductor so shorts and all that kind of thing isn't a problem and it bonds things like the dickens.

YAY! Now the  PROBLEM is fixed.:boggie: Here comes the piecing the puzzle back together.:frustrated: So we begin placing the board back into position and figuring out where the screws we took out were supposed to go. After a few trial and errors we got it pretty much right. Then comes the difficult task of reattaching all the componenets like the keyboard and touchpad and.. and... other stuff without them interfering with anything else. -_- It's so easy to take apart but a pain in the tokus to put back together.

So we get the top all back in place and turn it over to finish up in the back. The fan was annoying because there was a set of wires we had to get round. Then when we finally got that in place after ooooooooohhh 10 MINUTES, we noticed that those infernal wires were not connected. We searched for where they went and found the spot hidden under the housing. We tried to squeeze it under, needless to say it didn't work out the way we had hoped it would. :angered: So we had to go BACK to the other side, pull a few things out again. It still didn't give us much room to play but we were NOT about to do it all over agian. So, me haveing the greater strength, I held the sharp edged thing open as far as I could get it in order for her to attempt wriggling the wires into place. That, my good frineds, hurt. Alot. It took us another ten inutes to do just that.My fingers still ache.

So we get the dern thing back in place, put the screws in and continued where we left off: putting the fan back in. Those wires were still in the way but we managed to get them sudued enough to get the fan in place. You know, putting the fan in was probably the easiest part of that whole project. Then we have to put the rest of the screws into the board so it stays in place. We were doing really well until we found no more holes for the leftover screws. Yami Shocked That just couldn't be so we started searching for possible places they could go. When we found none, we started retracing our steps in an attempt to remember all of the places that the screws came from. We came up with nothing.... My sis got so mad at me. I racked my brain and the effort was in vain. There were no places for these THREE little, and I mean litlle, screws to go. Now don't you even say it, obviously there was a place for them to go, we just.... forgot. I was already tired and pissed off and didn't want to open the dern thing up again. It had taken over two hours for a simple soldering job. Do you know how easy it is to solder? Very. But we had to go through all that BS just to get to it. I wasn't about to do it again any time soon.

"Spare parts" were my only words.

So that proves it guys: I'm a dude. I promised myself that I wouldn't do it, that I would put EVERYTHING back wehre it came from and I failed miserably. But there those little screws be, staring at me,knowing the ugly truth that rots at the pit onf my soul. I have heard many times that women are better at mechanics and the like because they always put everything back exactly the way they found it. I have experience in this and know it to be pretty accurate. I don't understand why, but this time it didn't work for me. I've done many a mechanical and electronic job and done it right, precise, perfect. But this one was not like that. I feel so ashamed and dudely. I think I may have to resort to using little baggies or packets next time and that is such a humiliating circumstance.
